Boston Mountains Style Guide
Overview
The deep plunging hillsides of this area feature two kinds of forest. The upper areas have denser woodlands with a moister climate. Common trees are northern red oak, southern red oak, white oak and hickories. Lower areas feature savanahs and forests with shortleaf pines. Many older buildings are built with a mix of native stone and detailed glass.
Nearly level ridgetops and valley floors were once covered in pastureland and hayland, but now farmers are focused on food crops. Farms in general are small compared to their heartland neighbors. Cattle ranches have been deserted, but logging still continues to some extent. Lodges and observation decks afford beautiful views of the landscape, but are abandoned and in states of disrepair due to the collapse of tourism.
