 Building Style

Overview

In order for buildings to survive they must have been constructed of a very sturdy material. This means that they are of either brick or concrete construction, although even these often have holes and missing ceilings. Most of the buildings in our Springhill prototype are brownstones and production will thus be focused on creating a variety of brick faced buildings. In each town that we construct there will also be unique buildings which are designated to serve a specific purpose. These may have the addition of more elaborate detailing or even have a totally unique tileset if they need to stand apart further from the other buildings. Other exterior building styles which will be created for the game are variations on the fifties cinder block style and a futuristic style based upon fifties conceptions of the future.

Interiors of buildings will be fairly dim and should feel like they are a bit musty. Peeling wallpaper and slumping furniture will be common features. Things should seem stained and in need of repair.  The interiors of buildings will for the most part still be intact. Wallpaper and paint will be faded and peeling. Floors will have been heavily traversed and may be missing sections of tile or wood. Missing ceiling segments will have been fixed as necessary, often with billowing bits of fabric or scrap metal and wood.

Exterior Details

Another way in which buildings will vary is in their signage. Neon signs were common in the fifties and we will be developing a variety of these which may be attached to buildings as desired. Some specific buildings may have requirements for other signage which declares there purpose. Neon signs still shine in Springhill, although somewhat dimmer than years past. Some letters flicker and a few have gone out altogether. There will also be a variety of billboard sized advertisements which will be created to mimic the style of fifties adverts. These will be attached to the sides of buildings.
