Ouachita Mountains Style Guide
Overview
This region is composed of low fold mountains with sharply defined ridges. The extensive logging of the past has caused increasingly poor soil. Loblolly and shortleaf pine are the only trees to survive in large quantities. The climate is mild and rainy which helps support the expanses of woodland. This area is well known for its mineral hot springs and exclusive spa retreats were once very common. There are many lakes scattered throughout the woods and even waterfalls and rapids in some areas.
Cattle ranches in the area have switched to poultry, which was already a major industry in the area. Lumber has become more profitable, especially now that there are no government restrictions to keep it in check. Farms exist only in a few scattered valleys and have all switched from hay production to food crops. The whetstone trade flourishes after the war, creating an increase in whetstone mining throughout the region.
