Cross Timbers Style Guide
Overview
This region is characterized by gently rolling hills and forests with a high concentration of pine trees. Unlike most of Texas, this area has plentiful rainfall leading to diverse wildlife, thick forests and many man-made lakes. The war decimated most of the areas hardwood trees, but longleaf pine, shortleaf pine, loblolly pine, oak and hickory trees remain. It is even possible to come across a bog or swamp in this region.
While the cattle ranches have disappeared, lumber continues to be a lucrative industry for the area. Farming has seen a resurgence after the war and there are now many fields in this region. The farms are in general focused on food crops alone due to the heavy precipitation.
