Plains Style Guide
(includes panhandle plains, central plains and south central plains)
Overview
The plains region occupies the greatest area of our map, covering portions of most states. It consists mostly of grasslands and brush with small clumps of trees situated near bodies of water. But trees are either charred skeletons or saplings a few feet high. Common trees are Cottonwoods, Juniper and Willow. The prairie shortgrasses have all grown back since the war as well as sturdy brush, like Sagebrush, and invasive species. Rocky outcrops and buttes dot the landscape and can often be seen on the horizon.
The biggest industry in this region is still farming with a focus on food products and a few cash crops. Cotton in particular is in high demand. Being cost prohibitive, cattle ranches are now either deserted or have been converted to farms. The petroleum and natural gas industry has disappeared and the facilities are left empty.
